Second ZVM

  • Hi other customers of Zerto;

    Do you have a second zvm client\ vm installed on you DR site or is that not necessary and one is enough. I would like some opinions of Zerto customers who already using this product.

    thanks

    Hi Karel,

    A second ZVM is not necessary at either your DR or Production location. Our requirement for installation is just one ZVM per vCenter / SCVMM in your environment.

    Thank you,

    Shaun

    But is it not recommended\ normal? That surprises me. Because you need a/the ZVM to execute a restore. So if the main location burns down, you can/ must execute a restore with the second ZVM on you DR site. Or do you replicate the original ZVM to the DR site? Is that what you see “in the field”?

    Karel,

    It’s one ZVM per VC\SCVMM whether vSphere or Hyper-V, and like any good DR design we would recommend one VC\SCVMM per site. What Shaun is saying is that we do support single VC\SCVMM environments.

    Hi Karel,

    You are absolutely right, you do need a vCenter and ZVM to restore. However with a single vCenter / ZVM, the VMs for these respective applications, should be on remote site (DR) resources (hosts). This way if you have a massive failure on your primary datacenter site, the vCenter and ZVM is still running on remote site hosts. From there, you can launch Zerto, and restore VMs that were replicated to the remote hosts. If you would like to discuss this further, I can schedule a call to go over this with you.

    Thank you all for the info. I made the following decision: I will created a second vCenter on the DR site, just for restore purposes and I’ll connect a second ZVM

    Interesting information. We run a ZVM in our primary and secondary.

    Hi, we did the same, Primary and DR site with seperate vcenter and ZVM, because if one site is completely unreachable second site works. Also you need domain controlleres to access your data.

    Is there somebody who has the problem that initial sync of new VPG stucks, than the pairing of the two sites shows an error?

    Thanks
