Dual-NIC ZVM for Traffic Separation – Feedback?
Hi all, I just posted this to my blog after a grueling week on my migration project. I figured I should share it in case anyone runs into the same troubles in working with isolated networks and firewall exceptions as a last resort. Could someone take a look and provide any feedback? Any concerns with […]

Protect SQL System Disk Only
Our SQL team has their own process for data recovery and they would like us to only protect their System Drives. The storage team does not wish to house all of the SQL data at the recovery site, if it is not going to be used for recovery as it just takes up space. I […]

Moving journal data
Hello I’m running Zerto with vCloud Director and have customers replicating in from their onsite vSphere clusters in a DRaaS setup. We have our Zerto Journal data on a dedicated datastore. I need to move this to a new storage array so needs to be moved to a new datastore. I can make the new […]

ESXi upgrade (in-place new install)
I am looking to upgrade about 100 ESXi 5.1 hosts to ESXi 6. Half of these hosts have VRA running. This will not be in-place upgrade. I will be reinstalling ESXi6 over existing ESXi5.1 hosts. What would be the best practice?

Best Practices for Oracle on Windows 2012
Hi all. I’ve read the Best Practices for Oracle whitepaper by Zerto. It seems there are 2 means by which to ensure a consistent database is available on the recovery side: 1) Use Powershell scripting to place the Oracle database into Hot Backup Mode and run such a script as often as possible and 2) […]

SQL Always On
We are just tossing ideas around with our new data center layouts. One idea that was suggested is splitting our SQL always on cluster between two data centers instead of using Zerto for replication. While we understand there is some advanced configurations that would need to be done to prevent an accidental failover – or […]

Azure ZVM login issue
I have created a Zerto VM from the Azure marketplace and logged in and have Zerto 5 installed, but now when I try to log into the ZVM page it tells me bad credentials and that I should use a FQDN for my username. Since this is a VM in Azure, I don’t believe a […]

Zerto Maximums?
I’ve searched the forums and documentation repos for maximums/limits for Zerto. I’m working on a comparison with Site Recovery Manager, and this is one of the criteria for comparison I need to provide to management in my report. Is anyone aware of any maximums document produce by Zerto? Thanks!

VM to VPG Grouping
Are there any recommendations on grouping VMs to VPGs ? i.e. Basing VPG membership on start order, application, or fill-in-the-blank? I have also heard we should keep VPGs to 15 or fewer VMs. Can anyone confirm?

Encryption on Replicated VMs
We are seeing and issue where compression and deduplication is not working with replicated VMs. I’m trying to confirm if these disks are encrypted at rest?

Storage performance and best practices
Hi All, I have been pondering for some time now on what would be best for Zerto and its storage requirements, especially in a multi-tenant DRaaS environment (such as we have). Would welcome members comments on their own experiences regarding this topic as I think it would be useful for many of us. One thing […]

PostgreSQL and mySQL replication
Does anyone have any experience in replication of VM running PostgreSQL (on Windows and Linux) and MySQL (on Linux)? The concern is transaction level consistency.

Application consistent (VSS) restore
Hello, For application consistent snapshots using VSS, specifically for MS SQL Server, is it possible to do a restore and place the SQL databases into a loading state (norecovery or standby)? The goal would be to apply SQL transaction logs to roll the database(s) forward to a specific point-in-time. Thanks, Mike

per VPG limits?
Is there a limit to the number of VMs, or guest hard drive qty/size, in a VPG? If there’s not a technical limit, is there a best practice? In our environment, we’re hosting an application that has 3 SQL servers and about 50 IIS servers, and I was going to put them all in one […]
