We would like additional information on how to create manual checkpoints.
-How are they created?
-Can they be scripted?
-What benefit do they provide us?
Hello Adrienne,
Mike from Zerto here. To answer your questions:
-How are they created? – Please see the following for directions on how to manually create a checkpoint: http://s3.amazonaws.com/zertodownload_docs/Latest/Zerto%20Virtual%20Replication%20Zerto%20Virtual%20Manager%20%28ZVM%29%20-%20vSphere%20Online%20Help/index.html?cb=1567533051#page/AdministratorforZertoVirtualManager%2FCheckpoint.html
-Can they be scripted? – The Zerto PowerShell CMDlets have a Set-Checkpoint command to manually create a checkpoint, and that can be used in a scripting capacity. For more information, please see the following: http://s3.amazonaws.com/zertodownload_docs/Latest/Zerto%20Virtual%20Replication%20Zerto%20Virtual%20Manager%20%28ZVM%29%20-%20vSphere%20Online%20Help/index.html?cb=1567533051#page/PowerShellCmdlets%2FCmdlets.3.16.html
-What benefit do they provide us? – In addition to the automatically generated checkpoints, you can add checkpoints manually to ensure application consistency and to identify events that might influence recovery, such as a planned switch-over to a secondary generator. You can recover the machines in a VPG to any checkpoint in the journal, to one added automatically or to one added manually. Thus, recovery is done to a point-in-time when the data integrity of the protected virtual machines is ensured.
