Need assistance on upgrade

I’m opening this question on behalf of Tilman S.
I want to upgrade from 7.0U3 to 7.5U3. I have the download files. I have read the upgrade instructions. Zerto -recommends- User Managed Identities on the cloud ZCA. Is this a hard requirement if the environment is running and has been running for years and has been upgraded multiple times?
